Research interest and projects
I study phenological responses to climate change using game-theoretic models. Together with Niclas Jonzen and Kjell Bolmgren, I model how individuals should respond to climate change in terms of the timing of seasonal events and how timing affects demography and population densities. Currently we study the timing of flowering and trait correlations in annual plants alongside with phenological responses across trophic levels in a plant-insect-bird model system.
I am also interested in interactions between evolution, ecological processes and environmental change in general. How do continuous ecological changes, for example invasions, cascade extinctions and stochastic population dynamics affect the evolutionary process? Which kind of perturbations is most harmful for a community – fluctuations and variability, catastrophes or sudden environmental change?
I am also involved in developing eco-evolutionary models for explaining fundamental patterns of variation in plant community structure. The project is part of an international collaborative effort to create a new generation of evolutionarily informed vegetation models for predicting responses to global climatic trends.
